How to Listen So You Mean It

Did you know that the words Listen and Silent have the same letters?

To be a good listener, means you have to be silent at times when the person you are listening to is speaking.  To reassure your speaker, it is good to nod, or say, "uh huh", or to paraphrase what they are saying when they pause for a break.  The periods of silence are good, as it allows you and the speaker to reflect on what has been said, and to process a response or to formulate words for the next train of thought.

Enjoy the exchange of ideas, feelings and stories, with silence.  That's what makes you a good listener.

Cheers!
